I’ve decided to “challenge” myself by participating in my dietitian friend, Taryn’s, 30 day Healthy Lifestyle Challenge. My decision was brought about by a couple of reasons. Firstly, I wanted to practice taking photos, whether it be on an iPhone or a camera and I thought that taking pictures of food several times a day, would force me out of my comfort zone and make me, well, just do it. Secondly, I could improve in the healthy habit department – especially in getting more sleep, eating more vegetables and the like. Finally, I thought it would be good to self publish a little bit more. Sometimes,I am completely overwhelmed by the amount of content on the internet and social media, and think, “who would want to read my stuff?”, which often stops me from posting or commenting. I am sensitive to the fact that many people don’t like these types of online food/health challenge “diaries” so I’m just electing to publish to Instagram and my blog, rather than make a big fuss on the rest of social media. Thus it’s also a bit of an exercise in learning to put myself out there and publish content, whilst hopefully not coming across as a self absorbed, arrogant nutter.
Anyway, back to the Challenge. I know that with my 4am training wake ups, I’m going to find getting into bed at 8pm hard to achieve the eight hour number. However, I do know how much better I feel when I do get enough rest. I am also planning ahead with my meals. I used to really enjoy cooking and preparing different food, but the routine of having children and a busy schedule has completely snuffed that out. Today I’m going to try a pork and lemongrass concoction made up from leftovers from eldest daughter’s Thai party. Here, I’m trying to reduce waste and be environmentally responsible.
Day One, so far has gone well. I’m on track to get my vegetables in for the day and I’m going to sign off now so that I can prepare some more meals and vegetables. Exercise wise, the challenge asks for 30 minutes of “huffy puffy” movement daily. I am on a rest day from training today but have got my 30 minutes doing my favourite workout “CleanMax”, aka clean the house. It also asks for ten minutes’ worth of mobility training. This has come at a good time for me as I’ve been making foam rolling my cycling legs and stretching my hip flexors and glutes a priority whilst watching the evening news.
Back tomorrow with another update!
